To protect its worldwide internal as well as external communication and as a pioneer in the area of IT security, the Steag Group uses digital certificates from TC TrustCenter as part of its public key infrastructure (PKI). In 2003, the software-based certificates were replaced by a multifunctional company card.
Besides applications including digital signature and e-mail encryption, the company can also deploy useful functions like smart card logon and VPN access as well as building access control and time stamping. Plans foresee expanding the company card with single-sign-on functionality and complex applications like ERP systems. At Steag, the solution for heightened security in terms of internal communication entails significant process optimisations at the same time.
